More than any of the 4AD family, the Cocteau Twins channeled my deepest emo self. Blue Bell Knoll was the soundtrack to hours of aimless driving (and smoking, so much smoking) in high school. I faked sick to stay home and buy Four Calendar Cafe the day it came out. They were a tenderizer for a young man’s soul!
