“Blowing me away,” indeed. Is this what New Jersey was like in the 80s? Is it still like this? I don’t know a lot about the Garden State, but I know this is an exceptionally good scene. Everything is perfect. The lighting, the crowd, the skanking, Brenda Sauter’s braided rat tail. And of course Jonathan Demme is there filming it all. I think all of the Feelies albums have been re-released at this point. Pick one, invite all your groovy friends over, and have a dance party tonight. Over on the snack table? I’d suggest some finger foods that won’t weigh down your dancing shoes—spring rolls, melon balls, and tofu sliders.
